I think that the research raises some critical ethical considerations, particularly around privacy and informed consent. Passive monitoring of digital communication for mental health indicators involves accessing sensitive personal information, which necessitates robust protocols to ensure data confidentiality and security. Moreover, given the study's focus on adolescents, obtaining informed consent not only from the participants but also from their guardians is essential. This consent process must communicate the scope of data collection, usage, and the measures in place to protect participants' privacy. Ethical oversight must also ensure that participants fully understand their rights, including the ability to withdraw from the study at any time without consequences, safeguarding their autonomy and well-being in the context of research that delves into the private realms of their digital lives.
